Professor Vladan Ivanović participated in the 35th Anniversary Celebration of CERGE-EI in Prague

Professor Vladan Ivanović participated in the 35th Anniversary Celebration of CERGE-EI, held in Prague from 27 to 31 May 2026, following an invitation from the institution where he served as a Career Integration Fellow between 2020 and 2024.

CERGE-EI, a joint institution of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University, is internationally recognized as one of Central and Eastern Europe’s leading graduate schools and research centres in economics. Since its establishment, it has played a pioneering role in developing modern doctoral education and internationally competitive economic research across the region.

As part of the anniversary programme, Professor Ivanović attended the honorary doctorate ceremony for Professor Philippe Aghion, one of the world’s leading economists and Nobel prize laureate in 2025, held at the historic Carolinum of Charles University. He also participated in Professor Aghion’s distinguished lecture, “The Economics of Creative Destruction”, presenting the ideas that have shaped his influential contribution to modern economic theory.

The anniversary celebration brought together distinguished representatives of academia, business, government, and international organisations. Professor Ivanović also attended the reception hosted by the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, marking the presentation of the CERGE-EI Silver Medal for outstanding contributions to strengthening the dialogue between science and public policymaking.

During the event, he participated in the high-level panel discussion “Can Europe Regain Its Competitive Edge? Charting the Czech Republic’s Road to Economic Excellence” featuring prominent international economists and academic leaders, including Professors Philippe Aghion (Collège de France and London School of Economics), Professor Enrico Letta (professor at IE Global Affairs School and former Prime Minister of Republic of Italy), Professor Jan Švejnar (Columbia University, USA), Professor Gérard Roland (University of California, Berkeley), and Professor Michael Burda (Humboldt University of Berlin).

The anniversary concluded with a gathering of CERGE-EI alumni, researchers, faculty members, and partners from around the world. The event provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing academic partnerships, establish new international contacts, and discuss future opportunities for research collaboration involving institutions and researchers from Southeast Europe. On this occasion, Professor Ivanović also presented the ENTEEF project to fellow academics and researchers, discussing its objectives, ongoing activities, available data, and expected research outputs. These exchanges opened new opportunities for future collaboration, including the involvement of international researchers in the project, the development of joint research initiatives, and the establishment of broader academic partnerships related to entrepreneurship, labour markets, and the green and digital transitions.
